Grinnell College Appoints First Ombuds

The private, liberal arts college in Iowa has selected Chinyere Ukabiala as its first Ombudsperson. Ukabiala will report directly to the President and serve the College's students, faculty and staff beginning February 1, 2013.

"Chinyere Ukabiala has impressive experience working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures," said Grinnell College President Raynard S. Kington." Her commitment to diversity and mutual understanding, along with her expertise in negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution, will make her an outstanding resource for our entire college community." 

Ukabiala graduated from the University of Buckingham, College of Law in Buckinghamshire, England and attended the Inns of Court School of Law in London. Subsequently, she attended the Lagos Law School and practiced as an attorney in Nigeria.  She graduated from Drake Law School in 2001. Ukabiala has worked a an attorney in civil law practice at Iowa Legal Aid, the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence and in private law practice, representing mainly immigrant and low-income clients.  She has been an adjunct professor of Drake Law School and serves on the Luther College Board of Regents.  (Grinnell News;
