Registration Opens for 2015 Summer Academic Ombuds Meeting

The 13th annual gathering is returning to its original location at Northern Illinois University! The Summer Meeting provides an opportunity for academic ombuds to become better acquainted, to share concerns unique to our professional environments, and to support and learn from each other’s experiences. In addition to discussions led by nationally-known and respected Ombuds, the Summer Meeting will also present its annual New Academic Ombuds Workshop. 


Presentations will include:


  • Tom Sebok (Univ. of Colorado Boulder) –“Hindsight is 20/20” / Reflective Practice Discussion
  • Shannon Burton (Michigan State University) – “Working with Helicopter Parents (and Colleagues)”
  • Dr. Laverne Gyant – “Facing the Challenges of Diversity on College Campuses”
  • Discussion – “Where do Ombuds Fit in the Diversity Dialogue?”
  • Dr. Toni Tollerud– “Preventing Emotional Burnout in Ombuds”
  • NIU Employee and Student Threat Assessment Teams – “Current Threat Assessment Processes”
  • Discussion – “Do Ombuds Have a Role? Should They?”
  • Jessica Kuchta-Miller (Univ. of Colorado Boulder) and Sarah Klaper (Northern Illinois University) – Current Issues in Title IX
  • New Academic Ombuds Workshop
  • Facilitated Discussion of Hot Topics in the Ombudsy World

The event is very reasonably priced.  The New Academic Ombuds Workshop on July 26 is just $75, and the Summer Academic Ombuds Meeting, July 26-27 is just $80. (2015 Summer Ombuds Info.)
