First Student Ombuds at North Carolina State University to Retire

Roger Callanan, who lead the drive to establish the Student Ombuds Services office at NC State, and then served as Student Ombuds during the program’s first year, will retire on January 1, 2016. According to his first annual report, Callanan met with 550 individual students in the 2014-15 academic year.

Callanan's annual report included some recommendations that may impact the eventual search for his replacement. Most significantly, Callanan recommended that the office report to the university's Vice Chancellor or Chancellor, rather than as currently structured reporting to the Director of Student Conduct. He also recommended closer coordination with the campus's Faculty Ombuds. (NC State DASA Announcement; Student Ombuds Annual Report.)

  1. Roger It takes a lot of hard work to establish an office. Hopefully your recommendations are acted upon.
