The public university in Kentucky has reopened its search for an Ombuds. (Mindy Eaves, the Ombudsman for Jefferson County Public Schools had been announced for the post last September, but that has apparently fallen through.) The position reports to the provost and serves a student population of about 23,000 in addition to faculty and staff. The search will fill a position held by the Acting Ombuds, Robert Staat, since July when the first permanent Ombuds, Tony Belak, departed.
Applicants must have a master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field and four years of related experience; IOA "certification"; and completion of IOA basic course required within the first year of employment. Additional experience may be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements. The salary minimum for the part-time position is $66,153 FTE. No application deadline indicated. That's a tall order for a half-time position at a university that size. And the job description requires the ombuds to report the number of visitors who pursue formal grievances. Seems less than optimal.
